Longevity Celebration for the Deceased
“Re-heat and Reborn - Traveling with the wind -” is a project that delivers Okinawa’s traditional longevity celebration, “Kajimaya,” to the afterlife. In 2023, to recreate the Kajimaya that my late grandmother had been looking forward to, I used traditional Taiwanese paper craft, “紙紮（Zhǐ zā ）,” to create an open car and a dragon boat. Along with participants, we folded about 3,000 paper flowers and celebrated with a parade on the national highway and Ryukyu dance.
On the final day, the day of my grandmother’s Kajimaya, we burned the 紙紮（Zhǐ zā) in a ceremonial fire. Connected online with a*sanshin player from Germany , all participants danced the “ Kachāshī ” to conclude the celebration.

As my grandmother had once declared, “My Kajimaya should be grand,” the idea of “celebrating longevity for the deceased” was warmly understood and supported by my family and community. As a result, each participant
actively engaged, and the project was covered in the media. This allowed us to record Okinawan customs in a new form as a digital archive. This project not only added a fresh perspective to Okinawan traditions but also suggested new ways to communicate with the deceased, sparking the possibility of creating new customs in the process.

死者的長壽慶祝
「Re-heat and Reborn-死後重生-」是一個將沖繩傳統的長壽慶祝「風車祭」傳遞到彼岸的專案。2023年，為了重現已故祖母期待的風車祭，我們使用台灣傳統的紙工藝「紙紮」，製作了開篷車和爬龍船。與參與者共同折疊了約3000朵紙花，並以國道上的遊行和琉球舞蹈來慶祝。
在最終日，祖母的風車祭當天，我們將紙紮進行焚燒，並與來自德國的三線演奏者進行線上連線，所有參與者一起跳「*カチャーシ」，並以此結束了慶典。
*「カチャーシー」是沖繩的傳統民俗舞蹈，通常在慶祝活動、節慶和聚會中進行。舞蹈的節奏活潑，參與者會隨著節拍拍手、踩腳，並以愉快和充滿活力的方式跳舞。這種舞蹈通常是在慶祝等重要的場合中進行，整個社區會聚集在一起共同慶祝。
由於祖母生前曾宣言「我的風車祭要盛大」，因此，「為死者舉行長壽慶祝的習俗」的想法得到了家人和社區成員的溫暖理解與支持。最終，每位參與者積極參與，並且該活動也被媒體報導，成功以數位化的形式記錄了沖繩的習俗。這個專案不僅為沖繩傳統增添了新的視角，並且提出了與死者溝通的方式，同時也讓我們感受到從中誕生新習俗的可能性。

死者への長寿祝い
「Re-heat and Reborn-風連りてい巡る-」は、沖縄の伝統的な長寿祝い「カジマヤー」をあの世へ届けるプロジェクトです。2023年、亡き祖母が楽しみにしていたカジマヤーを再現するため、台湾伝統の紙細工「紙紮」を用い、オープンカーと爬龍船を制作。約3000個の紙花を参加者と共に折り、国道でのパレードや琉球舞踊で祝いました。
最終日、祖母のカジマヤーの日に紙紮をお焚き上げし、ドイツの三線奏者とオンラインで繋がり、参加者全員で「カチャーシ」を踊り祝典を締めくくりました。
祖母が生前「私のカジマヤーは盛大に」と宣言していたため、「長寿を祝う風習を死者のために行う」という考え方に対し、家族や地域の方々が温かく理解し、協力してくれました。その結果、参加者一人ひとりが積極的に関わり、メディアにも取り上げられることとなり、沖縄の風習を新たな形でデジタルアーカイブとして記録できました。本プロジェクトは、沖縄の伝統に新しい視点を加え、死者とのコミュニケーション方法を提案するだけでなく、そこから生まれる新たな風習の可能性を感じさせるものでした。
